History
The Department of English Language and Literature was founded in 1996 when a BA program was started and more than 30 students were admitted. More than a decade later, two MA programs were started in the department, one in English Language Teaching (2012) and the other in English Language and Literature (2013), paving the way for a more research-oriented growth of the department.
Up to now, hundreds of undergraduate students and dozens of graduate students have graduated from this department and have consequently been recruited in public and private sectors, even as faculty members. A considerable number of them had received their doctorates from reputable universities in Iran and abroad.
One of the valuable and worthwhile services of the department has been training qualified teachers for the schools and private language institutes in the province. It can be claimed that most of the teachers employed in these institutions have graduated from this department.
One of our honors in the Department of English Language and Literature is that often the number of our students admitted to MA programs proportionally exceeds those of some other high-ranking universities. In 2021, for example, one of our former BA graduates was ranked first in the national MA Entrance Exam.
